Homemade Toffee

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Hershey bars

Preparation:

  1. Line your pan with wax or parchment paper so the bottom and sides are covered.
  2. Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar and stir till dissolved. Allow mixture to cook, stirring occasionally till bubbly. (This seems to take forever)
  3. Once mixture has caramelized, stir well to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated. (This also seems to take forever, but keep stirring). Pour into a pan lined with wax paper and allow to cool.
  4. Heat Hershey bars until melted. Spread over cooled toffee and allow to set. Once candy is completely cooled and set, pull the toffee out by grabbing the excess wax paper. Lightly drop it onto the counter allowing the candy to break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.

Organza Sachets

Tools and Materials:

  • Two four inch squares of organza
  • Matching thread
  • Sewing needle
  • Pins
  • Lavender, cloves, cedar
  • Funnel
  • Pinking shears
  • Decorative ribbon

Preparation:

  1. Pin together two 4- inch squares of organza and sew a tight zigzag stitch around the perimeter, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance; keep a 1 inch opening on one side.
  2. Take lavender, cloves or cedar and pour into pouch using funnel.
  3. Sew the opening closed with a tight zigzag stitch, and trim the edges with pinking shears. Make three or four sachets, and tie them together with a decorative ribbon to present as a gift.

Relaxing Body Scrub

What you will need:

  • Salt or Sugar
  • Oil
  • A bowl
  • Essential Oils (I used eucalyptus)

Preparation:

  1. For this body scrub you can use salt or sugar. Sugar can be gentler on the skin. Just make sure to choose a sugar or salt that has small granules that will not tear at skin. A basic table salt or sugar works wonderfully. If you have super sensitive skin, you might opt for a dark brown sugar.
  2. Choose an oil. You can use baby oil or any of the following: organic extra virgin coconut oil, almond oil, safflower, vegetable or olive oil.
  3. You want 1 part oil to 2 parts sugar or salt. Place anywhere from a few tablespoons to a cup of salt or sugar in a container. Place half that amount of oil. Mix with a spoon. Do not freak out if the salt settles to the bottom. It is virtually impossible to keep it mixed.
  4. If you want your scrub to smell divine, put 5 drops of an essential oil into your mixture. Mix with spoon.
  5. Place mixture into a cute jar and tie with a cute ribbon. Don't forget to add a cute scoop.
